Time for a "bad" post? Sure why not...For those of you who don't know already, Cori and I bought a red toyota celica about a month ago. It was a cute little car that did exactly what it was supposed to, take us from point a to point b. We bought it from an online seller who seemed very nice and we took out a loan from the bank to buy it. Haven't had a problem with the car since then...fast forward to yesterday. Our friends Alex and Mike asked us if we wanted to go with them up to a town called Naha because they wanted to buy another Sugar Glider from a pet store located there. Cori and I decided to go with them because it gave us an excuse to leave the house and explore a part of the island we haven't seen yet.
Side Note: In this Okinawan pet store, cats were being sold for close to 1,000 dollars!!! Who in the world would purchase a cat for that much money??? You couldn't pay me that much to babysit one for a week. Insanity.
On our way driving back home from Naha, we were following Alex and Mike. We got stopped at a red light while they continued on. When the light turned green, Cori accelerated the car and before we knew what was going on the car made a horrible sound that sounded like the engine had just collapsed on itself. It was making the worst noise ever and right away the flames and smoke started coming out from the car. Cori immediately stopped the car (technically the car stopped itself because it was DEAD), and we proceeded to get out of it as soon as possible since A. it was on fire B. there was smoke everywhere C. we would rather not become charcoal. A very nice man pulled up behind us right away with a fire extinguisher and asked us if we were okay. He also let us borrow his phone to call a tow truck since we also (not surprisingly) had left both of our cell phones at home. Cori and I both knew that the car was DONSO. Something really bad had happened to it and we knew that it would cost more to fix it than what the car was actually worth....So here we are with a car that doesn't work, that we still owe pretty much the whole balance to the bank, and left carless once again. Oh...AND walking home because the tow truck could not drop us off beyond the gate doors. Speaking of which...the tow truck driver was a woman and very kind for that matter. She gave us a ride for free and gave us a lot of information on junk yards and recycle yards that we should look into taking our car to.
Really, what can you do?? Bottom line is that we are safe and we are healthy and we have eachother. That's all that really matters in life. Yes, our situation sucks beyond belief and yes it seems to be getting worse by the minute BUT I promise you one day....maybe 20 years from now, we will look back to this annoying experience and laugh. Right now, we just kinda chuckle sarcastically and pray for miracles.
that's insane. I'm glad you guys are safe.
