Cori and I received our two housing offers on Tuesday. We were offered a duplex and also an apartment in one of the towers. We were given the keys to both and told to check them out and pick one. The duplex was located in a nice neighborhood and ours was upstairs so we have an AMAZING view of the ocean from pretty much every window. The view itself makes you want to live there regardless of the circumstances. The inside is not so nice but they will kick us out for renovations in a year so we will be able to move to a nicer place or off base which we are actually looking forward to. The apartment was newly renovated and looked really nice and comfortable to live in. However, neither Cori or I wanted to live in an apartment and pets are not allowed there. We picked the duplex and will post pics once we are moved in which will be Monday!
I am officially a "professional" driver in Okinawa (Corigan has been already for the past three weeks). My privilege was granted after an hour long briefing and a 20 question test. Driving on the left hand side of the road will pose its challenges especially with a driver like myself (if you know me, you know what a horrible driver I am). We are looking to buy a car by the end of the month...You NEED a car here. Depending on people for rides is not fun for us or them. Watch out drivers! Here I come.
Cori and I are adopting a dog from the pound. He really wants a dog and I wouldn't mind one as long as I don't have to clean up after it :) I'm actually looking forward to getting one since he is so excited about it.
So far living on the island has been great. It is so beautiful here that you can't help but appreciate your life everyday. The locals are so respectful and nice. Such a wonderful culture to experience and be a part of. Can't wait to have our own place soon and get out of this hotel!!!
